Water dosage type D1
Description
Type D1 water is used in industrial and environmental contexts that require controlled quality, but without reaching the extreme purity levels of type P2 or ultrapure water. It is used in numerous technical processes, such as the preparation of industrial solutions, washing processes, analytical dilutions, and equipment performance testing.
The D1 water analysis aims to control the essential physicochemical parameters that determine its proper use: dissolved ions, conductivity, total mineralization, trace elements, and total dissolved solids. This control ensures compliance with internal specifications or applicable technical standards.
Industrial applications
Type D1 water is commonly used in several environments where stable and controlled water is required:
- Chemical industry: preparation of solutions, reagents, technical dilutions
- Environment: monitoring water quality in treatment facilities, comparative tests
- industrial processes: parts washing, operation of thermal equipment, fluid circuits
- Laboratories: technical water for testing, sample dilutions, or intermediate washings
Its composition can influence the quality of reactions, the effectiveness of washing, the performance of equipment, and the reliability of analyses. Hence the need for regular and rigorous analytical control.
Analytical methods
To characterize water D1, several complementary physico-chemical techniques are implemented.
ICP-OES / ICP-MS
are used to quantify trace metals (Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, etc.). ICP-OES allows for precise analysis of dissolved metals, while ICP-MS offers maximum sensitivity for detecting contaminants present in trace amounts.
Ion-exchange chromatography
is the reference method for determining the concentration of anions (chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, fluorides, etc.) and cations. It guarantees a precise reading of the ionic profile of the water.
Conductivity measurement
is essential for assessing the overall level of mineralization. It is a critical parameter for industrial installations using D1 water in thermal or cleaning systems.
Titrimetry and Dry Residuals:
Measuring dry residuals at 105 °C or 180 °C allows for the quantification of the total dissolved mineral and solid load. Titrimetry complements the analysis with the determination of specific ions as needed.
Supported matrices
