Description

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin essential for the proper functioning of the body. A major antioxidant, it plays a role in collagen synthesis, cell protection against oxidative stress, iron absorption, and the proper functioning of the immune system. Highly sensitive to heat, light, and oxygen, its actual content in finished products can vary considerably. Therefore, its measurement is essential to validate the composition of plant extracts, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and fortified fresh produce.

Analytical methods: HPLC-DAD and colorimetric titration

YesWeLab offers two reference methods for vitamin C analysis:

  • HPLC-DAD (high-performance liquid chromatography with UV-visible detection): the method of choice for accurately quantifying ascorbic acid in complex or sensitive matrices. It also allows for the differentiation of ascorbic acid from its oxidized (dehydroascorbic) form.
  • Titrimetry (2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol method): a rapid and commonly used method for simple matrices (juices, fresh fruits, solutions) or routine controls. It is based on the redox reaction between vitamin C and a specific dye.

Depending on the nature of your samples and the expected requirements (accuracy, regulations, inter-batch comparison, etc.), we will guide you towards the most suitable method.
