Description
Pyriproxyfen is a pyridyl ether insecticide growth regulator (GRR) used primarily to control insect proliferation by disrupting their development cycle. It is commonly used in crop protection, household hygiene, and pest control products (whiteflies, mosquitoes, etc.).
Its dosage is essential for checking residue levels in food, plant or environmental matrices. It also allows validation of the compliance of phytosanitary or biocidal formulations according to European and international regulations (e.g.: EC Regulation 396/2005, REACH, BPR).
Dosage objectives
- Control the active ingredient content in insecticide formulations
- Monitor residues in plant or animal foodstuffs
- Check that maximum residue limits (MRLs) are not exceeded
- Assess environmental contamination (water, soil, treated surfaces)
- Meet regulatory requirements for export, labeling or approval
Analytical methods
Pyriproxyfen analysis is performed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). These methods ensure specific, sensitive and reproducible quantification, even at trace levels.
The method is particularly suitable for complex or low residue matrices.
Analyzed matrices
- Technical phytosanitary formulations (liquids, powders, granules)
- Residues on fruits, vegetables, aromatic plants
- Plant or animal food supplements
- Runoff water, wash water or wastewater
- Treated soils, substrates, agricultural or industrial surfaces
Regulatory compliance
The dosage of pyriproxyfen is part of a strict regulatory framework:
- Control of food MRLs (EC Regulation 396/2005)
- Evaluation of active substances for REACH registration
- Monitoring of effluents or environmental discharges
- Approval files for plant protection or biocidal products (BPR)
