Ethylene oxide (ETO) is a sterilizing gas prohibited in the European Union for use in foodstuffs. Its measurement is mandatory to ensure regulatory compliance. Analysis is performed by GC-MS with purge and trap or headspace. Samples include spices, powders, plant extracts, and raw materials.
