What is EDTA?
EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) is a chelating agent widely used in cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical, and industrial formulations. Its main function is to complex metal ions, thus preventing their catalytic, oxidative, or precipitating action. This helps extend product stability, enhance the action of preservatives, or optimize industrial processes sensitive to trace metals.
It is found in shampoos, creams, disinfectants, dietary supplements, cleaning products, and water treatments. In the form of free acid or salts (Na₂EDTA, CaNa₂EDTA, etc.), its presence is strictly regulated depending on the sectors of application.
